Basic Tourist Information

To make sure that your travel to Panama would be a smooth one to let you enjoy your stay, here are some vital pieces of tourist information you need to know.

Travel Documents

If you are from the United States, Canada or any of the EU countries, all you would need is a valid passport and a tourist card. A tourist card would cost you about $5. You can get this either on the airplane before landing or from the immigration authorities upon your arrival to the country. The tourist card is good for up to 90 days. If you would need to extend your stay, you can extend this for another 30 days. Just make sure that you renew this before the 90-day validation of your tourist card expires.

For those coming from other parts of the world, it is best to inquire with the Panama Embassy or Consulate in terms of tourist information and requirements. This is because tourists from some countries would be required to first obtain a visa into the country before departure.

Arranging for your Trip

There are a number of different local travel agencies where you would be able to make reservations for flight and hotel accommodations in Panama. Some of these travel agencies would be more than happy to also assist you in getting all the various tourist information documents you need in the event you would need a visa. There are also a number of different online travel agencies that offer affordable vacation packages to the country as well. If you choose to make your travel arrangements online, make sure that you first have your travel documents in order before doing so.

Arriving in Panama

Once you have gone through the immigration and customs officials in the airport, there are a number of various forms of public transportation that you can avail at the airport lobby. Because most, if not all, of the drivers of these public forms of transportation are operated by Spanish-speaking people, it is a good idea to brush up that old Spanish translator. If you are not fluent in speaking Spanish, there are some travel agencies that would provide you ground transportation with an English-speaking driver who doubles up as a tour guide. Many of the rates offered by these travel agencies are extremely affordable. Make sure that you inquire about this while making your travel arrangements.
