Bocas del Toro travel is unique for its picturesque Caribbean archipelago. Majority of American and European tourists travel to Bocas, because of the number of Bocas del Toro hotels, offering a pleasant stay. This is in sharp contrast to many other towns and cities of Panama, where it would be difficult to find any type of hotel or other staying accommodation. A tour to Bocas del Toro normally covers the entire province of Bocas del Toro, consisting of the town on the main island, the group of islands, with lush jungle and mountains, and the scenic Caribbean archipelago.
Bocas del Toro, a tourist paradise
You could catch a plane from Panama City to start your Bocas del Toro travel. Otherwise, you could take a bus ride from the city of David and travel for 4 hours through forests and mountains, following it up with a 30-minute water taxi ride to reach the main island of Bocas. The town of Bocas has got several hotels and restaurants suitable to all types of budgets. The town also contains a few souvenir shops, apart from street vendors. Marijuana sales are quite common with many of these vendors. Product prices are higher in Bocas, due to the transportation costs from Panama City. The other islands also have private and secluded staying facilities but Bocas town is the cheapest for staying. Going around the province from this town is also quite easy, than from other places.
Bocas del Toro hotels
The main hotel in Bocas is Playa Tortuga Hotel & Beach Resort, which is mainly for tourists with a large purse. However, its sister hotels of Heike or Mondo Taitu are quite cheap at about $7 to $11 for a night’s stay. Hotel Sagitarius in the town offers a double bed room for $20. There are also many small Bocas del Toro hotels that are much more affordable. Another tiny hotel on the outskirts of the town is La Carolina, situated on the beach and the food is very good here. Hacienda del Toro is on the Isla San Cristobal, which is a nice place with swimming pool, bar, and ranch.
The bars in Bocas include the Ship Wreck Bar or Barco Hundido, a setup of a dock around a real shipwreck, apart from the bars of Mondo Taitu and Hacienda del Toro. The latter one is a cute jungle bar. The Bahmfalk’s bar is an enchanting gringo bar with cheap drinks.
Bocas del Toro sights
Taxis are quite affordable in any Bocas del Toro travel agenda. Apart from the shopping activity in the Bocas markets, you could take a water taxi ride for a round trip to Red Frog Beach for $5 and enjoy the beaches with white sand. Scuba diving and snorkeling are the chief water sports here and you might sight a reef shark. Otherwise, you could choose the water taxi ride for $2 to $3 round trip to Wizard Beach. This beach is situated on the Bastamentos Island. Renting a bike for a day trip to see the Bocas del Drago on the other side of the island is quite exciting but it is not advisable to travel alone. Particularly for women it could be a bit dangerous. Visiting the myriad scenic islands is a sure way to unwind and relax, a pleasant change from the hectic city life.
