The Folklore of Panama
The ethnic folklore of Panama finds expression in both art and theatre. Groups like Indian tribes, Mestizos, West Indiana, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Swiss, North Americans and Yugoslavians who have migrated to Panama over centuries, have contributed to its culture and its expression.
Panama's folklore is expressed to its fullest extent in its traditional dances. During these dances, the traditional colorful "Pollera", which is also the national costume, is worn. During the famous Carnival, which is a four days long celebration before Lent, people wear colorful clothes; perform concerts, ballads and dances in ballrooms, clubs and even the streets of Panama.
