Vaccinations for Panama

No matter how healthy of a lifestyle you may be living, traveling to another country for business or pleasure would expose you to a number of diseases. Unless you obtain vaccinations against these diseases and possible ailments, you can be sure that these would definitely cut your vacation short and spend the rest of your trip sick and miserable.

There are no required vaccinations for Panama-bound travelers. Nevertheless, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) had recommended the following vaccinations for you to first have before heading out to Panama.

Hepatitis A and B

This is perhaps the most important of all the recommended vaccinations for Panama travelers. Hepatitis A can easily be acquired through direct contact with another person infected with Hepatitis A. This could also be transmitted through contaminated water, ice, shellfish, agricultural produce and food that were not thoroughly cooked. Health care workers are also required to include Hepatitis B vaccinations before traveling to Panama for health care missions. This would protect them from contaminated bodily fluids that they may come into contact with during their work.

Rabies

Immunization from rabies is one of the highly recommended vaccinations for Panama travelers, especially those who are looking forward to spending time outdoors. Many of the parks that offer a variety of outdoor activities such as camping, hiking and biking are also home to exotic wildlife. As such, outdoor enthusiasts are in a higher risk level when it comes to contracting rabies from bites from these animals that might feel threatened by their presence.

Typhoid Fever

If you are traveling to Panama during the off-peak season, it is highly recommended for you to be vaccinated against typhoid fever. Just like Hepatitis A, a traveler can easily get typhoid fever from contaminated water. You can also get typhoid fever from eating food prepared and cooked by a person who has already been infected with this illness.

Make sure that you get the recommended vaccinations for Panama. Schedule an appointment with your local travel health clinic at least a month before your departure. This way, you can be sure that your body is strong enough to combat any illness that might come your way during your travel to Panama.
