Merry Christmas to all my friends in Panama!
With the inception of Catholicism along came the formation of Christmas. The majority of the Spanish/English mix of residents of this country accepts Christmas for what it really is. They put most of their emphasis on the spiritual meaning as opposed to the commercialized gift giving. That doesn’t mean they don’t celebrate it in the same manner as the other traditional countries. Santa Clause and the pine trees are part of what makes up the Christmas season here; it just doesn’t take the front seat so to speak.
The nativity scene is very important part of the Christmas season. In fact, neighbors will compete with each other to see who can make the nicest display of the nativity.
Like many countries, there is a gift exchange among the family members. Then there is a festive fantastic meal consisting of some wonderful foods such as tamales, salads, wines and rum punch just to name a few of the delicacies.
Higher income families tend to want to celebrate Christmas with their close friends and family at their beach houses. Mid income families will often do the same as well, although some of them opt to spend Christmas by going house to house.
Some of the business areas like the Banking district are well worth seeing for their spectacular and elaborate nativity display.
All walks of life are invited to spend a wonderful Christmas vacation at Panama. Where else could you possible go to enjoy the ocean and everything else that this country has to offer? Just think of spending Christmas on the waters fishing in places like Pearl Island or Bocas De Toro. There are many different charters that you can take advantage of.
Spending Christmas in Panama really is a different experience to the traditional ones celebrated in the cold and snow. It is wonderful when you can share Christmas in various countries and learn their cultures and traditions. Perhaps getting used to a warm climate during the Christmas season may take getting used to, but once you do, it will most likely become your tradition. A hi light of the season would be for the kids of the family to enjoy a wonderful swim in the ocean on Christmas morning. At the same time because of the value, that Panama puts on Christmas spiritually it is a wonderful way for everyone to escape the commercialism.
